Discovering Our Own Healing

In a decaying society, art, if it is truthful, must also reflect decay.
And unless it wants to break faith with its social function,
art must show the world as changeable.
And help to change it.
— Ernst Fischer

This project is Alexandra’s third video collaboration with the Midland Rape Crisis and Children’s Advocacy Center, culminating her experiences there as a volunteer.

With Leonardo’s technical guidance, they developed creative filmmaking workshops for kids going through therapy. Using art as a form of personal discovery, they created a pro-bono Public Service Announcement.

A message from Alexandra:

The experience I had volunteering at the Midland Rape Crisis and Children’s Advocacy Center was so profound… it drastically opened my eyes to the world around me. It revealed a problem mostly behind closed doors, a problem that needs to be in the light.

I volunteered at the Center with my dog where we would provide comfort to children who have experienced an abuse or other traumatic event. They have to recall their experience to a forensic interviewer for law enforcement.

This is where my dog and I would come in and hold a peaceful space for these children to support them through this recalling, allowing them the relief in knowing they are safe. Everyone is here to help.

Witnessing the impact of trauma through the eyes of these children has been life altering for me. It inspired me to make changes in myself, to make changes to our world. I can only continue acts of compassion throughout my life, and allow the opportunity for people to discover their innate ability to heal. To progress independently and as a whole, which is why I dedicate my existence to serving all as one.

One family, one world.

In Loving Kindness,

Alexandra
